Manchester United legends Roy Keane and Gary Neville have told Jesse Lingard he should leave Old Trafford and join West Ham United.
Lingard was a revelation on loan at West Ham in the second half of last season, bagging 15 goals and assists in 16 games.
The midfielder catapulted himself back into the England squad too.
That was an achievement not to be sniffed at given he had been almost completely frozen out at Man United for two years before joining David Moyes at West Ham.
Lingard to West Ham looked like a no-brainer for all parties after stunning loan spell
Many felt Lingard’s amazing spell at the London Stadium would result in a no-brainer permanent move come the summer.
But Man United boss Ole Gunner Solskjaer suggested Lingard was part of his plans.
And – as yet – no move has materialised with West Ham having failed thus far to add a single outfield player to their ranks.
Speculation has reignited this week that Man United want to sell Lingard.
Man United legend Keane and Neville tell Lingard he must leave
And speaking on Gary Neville’s YouTube show The Overlap, he and fellow Red Devils legend Roy Keane said Lingard needs to leave.
“People talk about recruitment at your football club, for Ole – and it’s the same for a lot of clubs – it’s about shifting people on as well,” Keane said on The Overlap.
“Because United have a lot, the Jesse Lingard’s and people like that in the background, you’re going to have to shift them on, they’re not the answer.
“I don’t think Jesse Lingard’s going to get Manchester United back challenging for titles… I think he done well at West Ham and maybe that type of club is a good fit for him.
‘He got pride playing for West Ham’
“But if you’re asking me do I think Jesse Lingard will get Man United back winning league titles, then the answer is no and I’ll say the same for Fred and maybe (Scott) McTominay.”
Neville interjected and highlighted that Lingard simply needs to leave Man United and continue his West Ham love affair for the sake of his own career.
“Jesse needs to leave for Jesse,” Neville said on The Overlap.
“You know he got pride last year playing at West Ham. You know he’s the man there and come back here he’ll play 15 games, he’ll be a good squad player but he doesn’t want that again surely after what he experienced last season (with West Ham).
“Jesse needs to leave for Jesse Lingard.”
