Hammers boss David Moyes desperately needs to add another striker to his ranks at the London Stadium before the transfer window closes.

Let’s hope that that doesn’t distract him from the need to bolster his central midfield options, however.

Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek have forged a superb partnership. West Ham have little in reserve, however.

Signing a central midfielder this month will be vital to our hopes of securing a top seven finish.

And the Sun reckons that Marseille ace Morgan Sanson could be just the man for the job.

The British red top suggests the Hammers are ready to send Manuel Lanzini in the opposite direction as part of the deal.

The former River Plate ace joined West Ham on a permanent deal in the summer of 2016 for around £9 million (Daily Mail) having impressed during a loan spell in East London the season before.

The Argentinian ace, 27, has struggled for form since suffering a serious injury in the build up to the 2018 World Cup.

West Ham eye Morgan Sanson and Manuel Lanzini swap deal

The Sun claims he’s valued at around £15 million and David Moyes is happy to send him to Marseille in part exchange for Morgan Sanson.

That means we would have to pay an extra £10 million for the £25 million-rated Sanson – great value in the current climate.

In 11 Ligue 1 appearances for Marseille this season, the 26-year-old Frenchman has racked up two goals and three assists (Who Scored).

Sanson has averaged 1.1 key passes per game. He averages 26.5 passes per game with a completion rate of 77.4%. The Frenchman puts in a defensive shift as well. The Marseille ace has averaged 1.9 tackles and 0.8 interceptions per game (Who Scored).

The midfielder would be a fine addition for West Ham. It’s just a question of whether it would be a wise move to sacrifice Lanzini in order to bring Sanson to the London Stadium.

The harsh reality is that the answer to that questions is most probably yes. We are more in need of an orthodox central midfielder than we are of someone with the Argentine’s skillset. He’s not the player he once was, whilst Sanson’s career trajectory is on the up.

This would be a good deal for the Hammers. Losing Lanzini would be sad. There is no room for sentiment in the modern game, however.
