The East London outfit have been heavily linked with a move to sign the 26-year-old ex-Chelsea midfielder over the past few weeks.

Tuttomercatoweb reckon that the Hammers are in the front row in the race to sign the Swiss midfielder this summer.

Zakaria is a defensive midfielder by trade and he can play in the centre-back position as well if need be.

The Swiss international is incredibly dynamic and energetic. He is a tenacious tackler and has the kind of physicality needed to succeed in the Premier League.

He could be available for just £17 million as well – an absolute bargain as far as I’m concerned.

Former BSC Young Boys coach Uli Forte labelled him as an incredible player with exceptional technical ability (Mondo Napoli).

I agree with Forte. However, I must make it clear that Zakaria is in no way on the same level as Declan Rice, and wouldn’t be good enough to replace the 24-year-old at West Ham if he is the only midfielder that Moyes brings in.

That said, if the Hammers boss signs someone like Sofyan Amrabat or Ibrahim Sangare as well as the Juve ace then we’ll be in business.

I think Zakaria will be a fine addition for West Ham in the long-run, but it will be hugely underwhelming if he is the only player Moyes brings in to replace Dec.
