West Ham United have been extensively scouting Bristol City striker Antoine Semenyo ahead of the summer transfer window.
That’s according to a report from The Bristol Post who claim that the 22-year-old could leave Ashton Gate, if a reasonable bid comes in for him this summer.
Hammers manager David Moyes clearly needs to bring a proven goalscorer to the London Stadium before the start of next season.
Michail Antonio has been very good for West Ham over the past 18 months to two years but he desperately needs more competition next season. Even the 32-year-old has admitted that himself!
Moyes is clearly getting all his ducks in a row ahead of the summer transfer window.
West Ham scouting Antoine Semenyo
The Bristol Post claims that the Hammers have been watching the 22-year-old striker very closely recently.
And we could face competition from Crystal Palace and Southampton for his signature this summer (Bristol Post).
We think that Semenyo could be a really useful addition for West Ham but only if he is brought in to supplement a marquee striker signing.
If the Bristol City ace is Moyes’s only striker signing there will be plenty of angry West Ham fans, that’s for sure, in spite of his undoubted ability.
The 22-year-old bagged eight goals and 12 assists in 31 Championship appearances for the Robins so far this season (Transfermarkt).
The Bristol City striker has blistering pace and is a really hard-working forward. He has been described as ‘rapid’ by Sky Sports.
Robins boss Nigel Pearson highlighted how he must be a nightmare to play against (Sky):
“Antoine has made great progress. He is a real threat with his power and pace. He must be a nightmare to play against! His challenge now is to keep developing and adding elements to his game to make him even more effective.”
He is also a very impressive dribbler and always puts in a defensive shift so it’s easy to see why Moyes might be interested in signing him in the summer.
Semenyo does panic sometimes in front of goal though and that is something that he absolutely must improve if he is to make the jump up from the Championship to the Premier League.
Bristol City are demanding around £20 million for the 22-year-old (Bristol Post).
Whether West Ham will be prepared to pay that kind of fee for Antoine Semenyo this summer remains to be seen though.
