Report: West Ham deal for Nayef Aguerd in danger over disagreement on bonuses

A new report from France claims the West Ham deal for Nayef Aguerd is in danger over a disagreement on bonuses.

West Ham have been heavily linked with Rennes and Morocco star Aguerd.

The Evening Standard and The Daily Mail suggested last week that Aguerd’s move to West Ham was imminent.

According to West Ham insiders speaking to Claret and Hugh, the Hammers had seen off competition from Sevilla to sign the 26-year-old left-footed centre-back.

At the weekend Le Parisien – as also reported by Get French Football News – claimed negotiations between West Ham and Ligue 1 outfit Rennes were proceeding positively.

And the reports stated that an agreement was expected between West Ham and Rennes by the beginning of this week over the transfer of central defender Aguerd.

But a new report from France claims the West Ham deal for Aguerd is in danger of collapse over a disagreement on bonuses.

Ouest France – as also reported by GFFN – claim West Ham’s attempts to sign Aguerd are being held up by disagreements over bonuses.

“The English club approached Rennes last week but, despite talks since, no agreement had been found by last night say the local news outlet,” Ouest France and GFFN report.

“The two sides continue to mull over what form the bonuses within the deal will take with a total fee, including bonuses, of between €35-40m (£30-35m) being discussed.

“The 26-year-old Aguerd, who was signed for €4m (£3.5m) by Rennes from Dijon in 2020, is currently away with the Morocco national team and the deal will have to wait until his return for any resolution – although Le Parisien expect a positive conclusion soon.”

There will be a distinct feeling of de ja vu for West Ham fans.

Rival clubs such as Aston Villa seem to have no issues getting deals done quickly and efficiently for players.

But with West Ham there always seems to be a problem or delay when it comes to transfers.

We can only hope the issue is just a delay and the move for Aguerd does not go the same way as so many others when it comes to the Hammers.
