Report: West Ham could lose ‘high-level’ Angelo Ogbonna for absolutely nothing in 2023

West Ham United centre-back Angelo Ogbonna is reportedly wanted by Italian duo Lecce and Frosinone.

That’s according to Diretta Goal who claim that the two sides are keen to sign the ‘high-level’ 34-year-old Hammers ace on a free transfer at the end of this season.

Ogbonna earns around £68k-a-week at the London Stadium (Salary Sport), and that deal is set to expire in the summer of 2023.

The Italian defender returned from nine months on the sidelines with an ACL injury at the start of this season, but David Moyes recently admitted that he maybe brought him back into action too soon.

Ogbonna is still a huge influence at the London Stadium, certainly behind the scenes. The Italian ace is a real leader of men.

However, there have been signs this season that old father time is catching up with Oggy. And it seems as though he may be on his way out of the London Stadium…

Angelo Ogbonna linked with 2023 West Ham exit

Diretta Goal claim that Lecce and Frosinone both want to sign the former Juventus centre-back on a free transfer in the summer of 2023.

Now, Ogbonna is someone who I would like to be kept on at the London Stadium, certainly in some kind of coaching capacity.

He just seems to be such a good influence on the squad in my eyes.

However, if Moyes doesn’t see him featuring much on the pitch for the Hammers between now and the end of the season, it would be no surprise to see him moved on.

Getting his hefty salary off the wage-bill would actually be fairly useful.

Should West Ham allow Angelo Ogbonna to leave on a free transfer in the summer though, it will be vital to replace him with someone who possesses similar attributes to the Italian.

Quite who that will be remains to be seen.
