According to a report from Foot Mercato, Marseille are under pressure to sell in January and next summer. And that is excellent news for West Ham regarding their alleged pursuit of Duje Caleta-Car.

L’Equipe reported a few days before transfer deadline day in the summer that the Hammers had made numerous bids for the eight-capped Croatian international.

The Sun also claimed that West Ham made a £25 million offer for Caleta-Car two days before the transfer window closed.

The 24-year-old ended up staying with Marseille, however. He allegedly wanted to play Champions League football.

With the Ligue 1 outfit’s struggles in Europe’s premier competition this season, however, and now their apparent desperate to raise funds (Foot Mercato), West Ham may well have another crack at Caleta-Car.

The Croatian would be a superb addition for the Hammers. Well-renowned football analysis and scouting website IBWM recently described Caleta-Car as an ‘exceptional talent’. And if we can pick him up for less than £25 million, it would be a real coup.

Buzz Sport recently claimed that the Ligue 1 outfit are prepared to sell the 6ft 4in centre-back for £20 million.

Caleta-Car is a strong and commanding centre-back and has everything we need.

In 18 combined appearances for Marseille and Croatian this season he has won an average of 2.78 aerial battles per game (Who Scored). He undoubtedly has all of the qualities needed to succeed in the Premier League.

The West Ham owners just need to make this one happen!
