Newcastle United are eyeing up a deadline day move to sign long-term West Ham United transfer target Sander Berge.
Sky Sports claim that Newcastle want to sign the 24-year-old Sheffield United midfielder on loan with an option to buy him in the summer.

However, it is stated that the Blades want either a cash deal today or at least an obligation to buy the Norwegian in the summer included in the deal.

Hammers boss David Moyes was first linked with a move to sign Berge three years ago, before the 6ft 5in midfielder made his shock move to Sheffield United for around £22 million (BBC).
Interestingly, the 32-capped Norway international is exactly what West Ham need in the middle of the park at the moment. The Blades ace would be a huge upgrade on Tomas Soucek, but it seems as though Newcastle are in the front seat in the race for the former Genk ace’s signature…
Newcastle eyeing deadline day swoop for Sander Berge
The giant Norwegian could be St James’ Park bound according to a report from Sky Sports.
And I have to ask the question once again, what on earth are the Hammers doing just sitting back and watching this transpire?
Scouted Football describe Berge brilliantly as a ‘bulldozer-like ball carrier’. And they’re not wrong, he is an absolute powerhouse.
Berge will undoubtedly be a great signing for Newcastle, if Eddie Howe does manage to bring him to St James’ Park. I just don’t get why we aren’t in for the Norwegian, especially considering the fact that David Moyes has tried to sign him before.

Berge possess power and pace in abundance and has the ability to absolutely dominate the middle of the park.
The 24-year-old would take West Ham’s play through the middle of the pitch to another level in my opinion.
Unfortunately for us though, it seems as though Newcastle are pressing ahead with a move to sign Sander Berge on deadline day.
That just highlights the difference in trajectories between the two clubs at the moment in my opinion.
