West Ham have been dealt a hammer blow with the news that Liverpool now want to sign Lille midfielder Amadou Onana.

That’s according to a report from The Athletic who claim that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is keen to prise West Ham target Amadou Onana away from Lille this summer.

That is obviously bad news for David Moyes who has allegedly just submitted a £32.3 million bid for the talented 20-year-old midfield ace.

However, HLN claim that Lille are demanding closer to £35 million for Onana.

Liverpool boss Klopp is keen to add more competition for Fabinho and Jordan Henderson in the engine room department at Anfield.

Amadou Onana will be an exceptional addition for whichever club wins the race for his signature. It seems as though the Hammers may well have our work cut out in the race for Onana though…

Liverpool set to challenge West Ham for Amadou Onana

According to a report from The Athletic, the Reds could try to hijack the Hammers’ move to sign the Belgium international.

Losing out on signing Onana to Liverpool would be devastating for West Ham – he’s that good.

The Belgium international is a truly sensational midfielder.

He seems to have absolutely everything needed to succeed in the English game what with its intense nature and ferocious speed and tempo.

The 6ft 5in central midfielder is an absolute giant.

He’s powerful, energetic and has everything that Moyes and Klopp will be looking for in the middle of the park.

The Belgium international is equally as strong with both feet, and that’s somewhat of a rarity in the modern game.

In 32 Ligue 1 outings for Lille last season, Onana averaged 1.5 tackles and one interception per game. He made 20 passes on average per match and recorded a completion rate of 84% (Who Scored).

The 20-year-old is an absolute powerhouse of a player and would be an unreal addition for either West Ham or Liverpool.

Onana is a really special talent. He has been described by Sport Magazine as a ‘sensational’ young player. Meanwhile, he’s been labelled as an ‘incredible’ player by Total Football Analysis.

Liverpool will surely be favourites to sign Amadou Onana ahead of West Ham now though.

And if we miss out on the Belgian to Liverpool, it would be a devastating blow for the Hammers.
