Report makes Gabriel Barbosa transfer claim as West Ham hunt big summer striker signing

West Ham United have allegedly been offered the chance to sign talented Flamengo striker Gabriel Barbosa this summer.

That’s according to transfer expert Dean Jones who told Give Me Sport that the Hammers will be given a crack at signing the Brazilian hitman in the summer transfer window.

Gabigol’s agent claimed that West Ham made a formal offer for his client’s services back in January but that came to nothing in the end.

West Ham manager David Moyes desperately needs to bolster his centre-forward ranks at the London Stadium before the start of the new season.

And it seems as though this summer could be the time that the silky South American finally arrives in East London…

West Ham offered chance to sign Gabriel Barbosa

The 25-year-old could be set to leave Brazilian club Flamengo in the summer transfer window.

And Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport how West Ham will have a chance to sign Gabigol:

“Newcastle are set to join the discussion over a potential move for Gabigol to the Premier League. They are to be offered the player imminently as agents scope out the possibility of a move to the Premier League. Wolves have been credited with interest in Gabigol, who has scored 101 goals in 156 matches for Flamengo, in recent days and it is true they are exploring the situation after being made aware of his availability. Yet other clubs will be given the chance to sign him too with Newcastle at the top of the list, along with West Ham.”

We think that the Brazilian forward would be a very smart addition for the Hammers this summer.

The 25-year-old has been in scintillating form over the past couple of years.

Barbosa has scored 101 goals in 151 games for the Brazilian giants. This season, he’s bagged 17 goals and two assists in 33 games (Transfermarkt).

The Brazilian is a proven goalscorer and that is exactly what West Ham need at the moment.

However, there have been accusations that the striker isn’t the most hard-working and committed to training in the past.

Former Inter boss Frank de Boer didn’t hold back when discussing Gabigol’s time at the San Siro, as quoted by The Mirror:

“Inter bought him for €35 million. I didn’t know much about him, but they told me he was a fantastic player. He thought he could do everything while standing still, playing indoor football. They called him Gabigol, but we called him ‘Gabi-no-gol.’ He joined us with two personal social media editors and a bodyguard but didn’t do anything.”

Well now, that’s not great to hear about a player we’re linked with is it!

The thing is, every footballer goes through tough spells.

If there is one manager who could get the best out of Gabigol, it’s David Moyes. The Brazilian will surely want to prove himself in the Premier League and will be hungry to succeed.

Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth claimed back in January that the 25-year-old could be available for around £25 million. That’s good value as far as we’re concerned.

And if West Ham bring Gabriel Barbosa to the London Stadium for that kind of fee, we think it will be a pretty good deal.

Beating the likes of Wolves and Newcastle to his signature may well prove to be tricky though…
