A new report has made an exciting claim about West Ham United’s striker signing plans with talks already underway over a departure.

It is fair to say Gianluca Scamacca’s debut season at West Ham has not worked out as he or the club would have hoped.

There were flashes of the 6ft 5in star’s finishing prowess and class in a West Ham shirt.

But between the £35m forward and manager David Moyes, they have failed to make it work in the Scot’s system.

Scamacca is dividing opinion among some Hammers fans.

Many believe the club should keep hold of Scamacca and give him another chance to prove his worth next season. Those supporters feel that, with a full pre-season behind him and the Hammers starting next season with a clean slate, Scamacca could go on to be a success.

Scamacca going back-a to Italia?

Others think Scamacca is not suited to a team like West Ham, who – under Moyes at least – need a hard-working, powerful all-rounder in the Michail Antonio mould up front.

Moyes had publicly criticised the 6ft 5in forward, calling for him to do more and improve his fitness before his season was ended when he required a knee operation.

Since then speculation has been relentless that Scamacca will be leaving West Ham for a return to Italy as soon as the summer window opens.

The forward has been linked with a summer move to six of Serie A’s biggest clubs.

But with Antonio turning 34 next season and Danny Ings no spring chicken either, that would leave a major area to address for West Ham in the market.

Well now a report has made an exciting claim about West Ham’s striker signing plans with talks already underway over a departure.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, AC Milan have already opened talks with West Ham over taking Scamacca on loan with an option or obligation to buy. And the Hammers are eager to do the deal.

Talks already underway, as is the hunt for a replacement, it is claimed

Because interestingly the report also claims West Ham have already started looking for a new striker signing to replace the Italian.

It is claimed AC Milan directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara, who has known Scamacca since his time in Roma‘s youth system, have already initiated talks with West Ham.

The report also claims the West Ham forward will welcome the move to Milan, who see him as the “obvious heir” to Olivier Giroud and Zlatan Ibrahimovic – one of Scamacca’s heroes and a player he was once likened to.

There are no details on who West Ham might be eyeing.

But Hammers fans will have noted recent links to the powerful and lively Viktor Gyokeres – who looks a lot more suitable for the Premier League.

West Ham have also been linked with the likes of Sheraldo Becker.
