According to a report from the Athletic, David Moyes chose not to bring Diego Costa to West Ham United because he did not believe that the Spain international was the right fit for the club.

The Hammers boss was frantically on the hunt for a new striker in January having sold Sebastien Haller to Ajax.
In the end, West Ham ended up with nobody, choosing instead to rely solely upon Michail Antonio.
With Michy having just injured his hamstring, that decision seems a baffling one to say the least.

Method to Moyes’ madness
The Athletic claims that the Scot likes a tightly knit group of good characters to make up his squad.
One of the names linked with a move to the London Stadium in January was Diego Costa (Il Messaggero).
Many West Ham fans viewed signing the 32-year-old striker on a free transfer as somewhat of a no-brainer.
Moyes obviously didn’t think that way, however.

The reason why David Moyes didn’t sign Diego Costa
The Athletic claims claims that was because he didn’t want to upset the apple cart by adding someone with a questionable character to his ranks in east London.
It is suggested that Moyes is meticulous when it comes to weighing up whether or not to sign any potential targets.
As things stand, his decision to sign Jesse Lingard instead of another striker seems like an inspired one. The 28-year-old has proven to be an excellent addition for West Ham.
It would be fair to suggest that Costa would have been nowhere near match fit either. His wages would have been astronomical as well.
Let’s just hope that our lack of options in the centre-forward department don’t come back to bite us come the end of the season, however.
