Report: Gabriel Barbosa wants to join West Ham and has been impressed by David Moyes

Gabriel Barbosa wants to join West Ham this month according to a report from Sky Sports.

The Hammers’ need for a top-class striker has been well-documented over the past year.

Sebastien Haller left the London Stadium for Ajax in January 2021 and since then we have been far too heavily reliant on Michail Antonio.

That has to change and with the January transfer window now open, Moyes quite simply has to act.

It seems as though the Scot has identified the man he wants for the job. Flamengo hitman Gabriel Barbosa is allegedly on the Hammers radar.

The 25-year-old Brazilian forward has been tracked by the East London outfit for quite some time now.

Gabriel Barbosa wants to join West Ham

Sky Sports reckon that the Brazilian hitman is keen to join the Hammers this month and has been very impressed by the job being done by David Moyes at the London Stadium.

West Ham desperately need to sign a striker and Gabriel Barbosa has been in sensational form for Flamengo.

Barbosa has scored 84 goals in 124 games for Flamengo. Last season, he racked up 29 goals in 43 games (Transfermarkt). So he certainly knows where the back of the net is.

His struggles in Europe with Inter and Benfica will undoubtedly be a concern for West Ham, however. It’s all well and good doing it in Brazil but the Premier League would be a real step up in quality and intensity.

There are also question marks regarding Barbosa’s attitude and application.

Former Inter boss Frank de Boer didn’t hold back when discussing Gabigol’s time at the San Siro, as quoted by The Mirror.

It must be said, Barbosa doesn’t seem to be a typical David Moyes signing. But who knows? Perhaps the Scot could get the Brazilian working hard and firing on all cylinders.

And with Gabigol allegedly keen to join West Ham, this will definitely be one to keep a close eye on as the transfer window rumbles on.
