Report: Club’s ridiculous asking price means West Ham could seal free transfer for Ben Brereton Diaz

West Ham United surely will not be signing Ben Brereton Diaz from Blackburn Rovers in the January transfer window.

That’s because The Sun are claiming that the Championship side are demanding £15 million for the 23-year-old this month, despite the fact that his contract at Ewood Park will expire in just five month’s time.

David Moyes desperately needs to strengthen his attacking ranks at the London Stadium in the January transfer window.

And Brereton Diaz is someone who the Scot has been tracking for the past year.

The Chile international has performed consistently for Blackburn for 18 months now, and is being tracked by the likes of West Ham, Everton, Leeds and Newcastle this winter (The Sun).

If the latest reports regarding his future are true though, the Hammers surely won’t be signing him…

West Ham could sign Brereton Diaz on a free transfer

The Sun claim that Blackburn’s demands for the 23-year-old mean that he will most probably remain at Ewood Park for the remainder of the season.

He then will be available on a free transfer in the summer, certainly if Blackburn fail to secure promotion to the Premier League.

Paying £15 million for the Chile international forward this month would make no sense whatsoever. However, snapping him up on a free transfer in the summer would be a very good move from Hammers boss David Moyes.

We could really do with someone like Ben Brereton Diaz at the London Stadium. But he’s not worth £15 million now, that’s for sure.

The 23-year-old is an incredibly hard-working forward and is a very good finisher as well.

He scored 22 goals for Blackburn last season and has bagged 10 goals so far this term.

Brereton Diaz would provide really stiff competition and cover for Gianluca Scamacca at West Ham, and I would not be against him arriving at the London Stadium on a free transfer in the summer one little bit.

However, signing him for £15 million in January would reek of a panic move in my opinion.
