West Ham quoted huge fee for Blackburn striker Ben Brereton Diaz, insider claims

West Ham have been quoted a massive fee for Blackburn striker Ben Brereton Diaz according to claims from club insiders Claret and Hugh.

Hammers boss David Moyes is desperate to add a proven goalscorer to his ranks at the London Stadium before the January transfer window slams shut.

Since selling Sebastien Haller to Ajax in January 2021, West Ham have had to make do with Michail Antonio as our only recognised striker.

Biggest STAR Your Club Are Trying To SIGN This Month

That quite clearly isn’t good enough for a club with aspirations of challenging for honours both domestically and on the continent.

It seems as though David Moyes is intent on addressing that particular issue though.

West Ham quoted huge fee for Blackburn striker Ben Brereton Diaz

Earlier this morning, The Express claimed that Moyes has identified the 22-year-old striker as a priority transfer target in January.

And now Claret and Hugh reckon that Blackburn have told the Hammers it’s £28.5 million for Diaz this month, or no dice.

That really is a crazy price, but an understandable one from Blackburn’s perspective.

They are fighting for automatic promotion from the Championship and are currently level on points with second placed Bournemouth.

Blackburn obviously don’t want to lose their most important player midway through the season, so are more than entitled to be driving a hard bargain for the Chile international.

Brereton Diaz has 20 goals in 27 Championship appearances for Blackburn to his name this season (Transfermarkt). He isn’t the quickest but he’s a hard-working forward and is a very good finisher.

The major problem here is that the 22-year-old has zero Premier League pedigree.

Who’s to say that he wouldn’t struggle making the jump up from the Championship?

Diaz is clearly a good player but it just seems like a £28.5 million fee is far too extortionate, considering his lack of exposure at the very highest level of the game.

Perhaps West Ham will be better off waiting until the summer. The Chilean hitman’s contract at Ewood Park expires in the summer of 2023 after all.
