West Ham United can allegedly sign talented Barcelona forward Memphis Depay for just £17 million this summer.
That’s according to a report from SPORT who claim that Hammers manager David Moyes wants to bring the 77-capped Holland international to the London Stadium before the start of next season.
Signing a top-class centre-forward will be absolutely pivotal for Moyes and West Ham this summer as we look to challenge for honours on all fronts next term.
Michail Antonio has been brilliant for the Hammers over the past couple of years but at 32, he desperately needs more quality competition to keep him sharp.
When his form tailed off after the New Year, so did West Ham’s as a team. Moyes will be desperate not to repeat that next season and it seems as though he has a plan up his sleeve…
West Ham told fee needed to sign Memphis Depay
SPORT claim that Barcelona have told the Hammers to pay €20 million (£17 million) if we want to bring the experienced Dutchman to the London Stadium this summer.
That sounds like great value to us considering the 28-year-old’s quality and undeniable talent.
We think that Depay would be a very good signing indeed for West Ham.
The 28-year-old has bagged 13 goals and two assists in 38 games for Barca so far this season (Transfermarkt).
The former Manchester United ace is an enigmatic, precocious talent and on his day he is unplayable. Depay is incredibly strong as well and would be ideally suited to leading the line on his own for the Hammers.
Sure, he has displayed some attitude problems in the past but who better to get him on the straight and narrow than David Moyes?
With Barcelona allegedly now demanding just £17 million for the Dutch flyer, signing him seems like somewhat of a no-brainer for the Hammers.
And if David Moyes manages to bring Memphis Depay to West Ham in the summer transfer window, we could be in for a seriously exciting campaign next season.
