According to a report from the Athletic, West Ham could decide to cut short Craig Dawson’s loan deal from Watford in January.

The 30-year-old joined the Hammers on a season-long loan deal from the Hornets in the summer.

Craig Dawson is yet to make a senior appearance for West Ham, however.

Fabian Balbuena, Angelo Ogbonna and Aaron Cresswell have all performed admirably as part of a back three this season.

And the addition of Dawson now seems like a completely unnecessary one.

The Athletic claims that West Ham could look to cut short the former West Brom man’s loan deal due to his lack of involvement.

That would be the right call.

The Hammers have Issa Diop in reserve and even Declan Rice who could be used as a centre-back in an emergency.

There is also the possibility that Winston Reid could return to our squad in January when he returns from his loan spell with Sporting Kansas City (The Athletic).

We have also completed the signing of talented youngster Frederik Alves of course.

Dawson is a decent defender. He isn’t Premier League quality, however.

West Ham should send him back in January. And we should be aiming a lot higher in the future.
