West Ham centre-back Craig Dawson allegedly could be sold in the January transfer window, against the wishes of David Moyes.

The 32-year-old defender was heavily linked with an exit from the London Stadium on transfer deadline day in the summer (The Daily Mail).

He remained with West Ham but reports suggesting that he could leave in the January transfer window have been rife.

Dawson is a hugely popular figure at the London Stadium.

He originally joined the Hammers on a season-long loan from Watford in October 2020. West Ham then made his move to the London Stadium a permanent one for a further £3 million in the summer of 2021 (The Sun).

£3 million for the no-nonsense, tough-tackling centre-back now seems like an absolute bargain.

Daws has established himself as a cult hero at West Ham but he’s actually a lot more than that. He’s a very good good defender, and labelling him as a cult hero really doesn’t do him justice.

He has been described as an ‘immense’ centre-back by the Evening Standard. And ex-Hammer Carlton Cole once labelled him as ‘special’ (Daily Mail).

David Moyes is obviously a massive fan of Dawson, but he could be forced into letting him go in January…

West Ham could sell Craig Dawson in the January transfer window

Transfer insider Dean Jones has suggested that Moyes may be forced into selling the 32-year-old in January, when speaking to Give Me Sport:

It’s a tricky one but they might, yes. I think West Ham would like him to stay, ideally, but they are going to be pretty respectful to whatever Dawson wants at this stage.

If Dawson really does want to leave the London Stadium in order to move closer to his home up north, then we should just grant him his wish.

There is no point in keeping an unhappy player at the club.

And selling the 32-year-old for a small fee in January would obviously be better than losing him for nothing next summer.

Craig Dawson is still a vital player for West Ham in my opinion, so losing him in the January transfer window would be a big blow.

At the end of the day though, Daws has got to do what’s best for him and his family. And after the couple of years he has given us, with have no problem with him leaving West Ham in January, if that’s what he wants to do.
