Premier League giants reportedly tried to sign Lucas Paqueta before West Ham won the race

Manchester City were considering making a move to sign Lucas Paqueta before he joined West Ham United in the summer.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano (episode 120 of the Here We Go podcast) who claims that Paqueta was an option for Manchester City when Bernardo Silva was being linked with a move to Barcelona.

And he already looks like an absolutely incredible addition for the Hammers.

It seems as though David Moyes did really well to bring him to the London Stadium…

Manchester City wanted Lucas Paqueta before he joined West Ham

Fabrizio Romano was speaking during episode 120 of the Here We Go podcast, and suggested that Pep Guardiola was lining up the 33-capped Brazil international play-maker as a potential replacement for Bernardo Silva, had the Portuguese ace left to join Barcelona in the summer:

“The main option for Man City in case of Bernardo deal with Barcelona was Lucas Paqueta. He was really appreciated by Pep Guardiola, really appreciated by the board. They had some discussions with the agents. Then it was never advanced because Man City are more than happy to keep Bernardo Silva. But Lucas Paqueta was a serious option. He was on Man City list, but then he joined West Ham when he knew with Man City it was 100 per cent over.”

The fact that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was even interested in Paqueta proves just how good he is.

Pep just doesn’t sign bad players, it really is as simple as that.

Lucas Paqueta will undoubtedly go on to have a successful career at the London Stadium.

Let’s just hope that Man City don’t come knocking for the Brazilian again, if he does indeed show his class consistently in the claret and blue.
