The path appears to be clear for West Ham United to sign Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos after a frank admission from a senior Ibrox figure.

West Ham have been consistently linked with a move for Rangers star Morelos over the last 18 months.

According to a new report from The Sun, West Ham remain interested in signing Rangers’s Colombian striker in the next window.

It comes after Claret & Hugh claimed recently that West Ham were focused on bringing their ‘priority’ signing in the summer, a striker partner for record buy Sebastien Haller.

Morelos ticks Moyes’s boxes

And Morelos ticks all those boxes with Rangers boss Steven Gerrard recently describing the temperamental 23-year-old hitman as ‘world-class’ (Daily Record).

West Ham would have to pay around £20million for Morelos, according to the Daily Record.

But West Ham might be able to get that price down with transfer values and business expected to fall dramatically due to the financial impact of the ongoing global health crisis.

And it seems Rangers are open to the idea of selling Morelos.

That’s if new comments from Gers sporting director Ross Wilson are anything to go by.

Rangers director makes frank admission over star’s future

Wilson told The Scottish Sun that the Rangers hierarchy will need to assess the state of the transfer market post-coronavirus before making a call on the Morelos’s future. But he hinted the club are open to selling, just not ‘on the cheap’.

“We definitely don’t want to be selling anybody on the cheap,” Wilson told The Scottish Sun.

“I’m in touch with my counterparts in Europe all the time, particularly colleagues in the English Premier League who I am used to working closely with…

“The bottom line is we don’t know where the market will be. But there is no intention to sell anyone on the cheap… We genuinely won’t know until it gets under way. The market is driven by supply and demand and there is a domino effect.

“Until that machine starts to move, no one will know the valuation of our players, or anyone else’s for that matter. When you don’t know what anything’s going to look like, everything is on the table. It could well be the case that that is the situation with Alfredo.”

‘Gers are looking to cash in on West Ham target’

In the same article The Scottish Sun claims Rangers ARE looking to cash in on the 77-goal West Ham target this summer.

And – unless it already has his blessing – that could put Rangers chiefs on a collision course with manager Steven Gerrard.

The Liverpool legend was outspoken on Morelos’s future the last time he was linked with West Ham.

Ironically, West Ham and Rangers reportedly want to play each other in an historic pre-season friendly.

Plans were afoot for the clubs to meet for only the second time in their long histories.

Whether that materialises in the wake of the global health crisis remains to be seen.

But for one Scottish family in particular, it would be a dream come true.
