Opinion: West Ham should sign Arsenal ace Matteo Guendouzi with Mikel Arteta allegedly keen to sell the Frenchman

With West Ham United’s lack of strength in depth in central midfield, a move to sign Arsenal ace Matteo Guendouzi in the summer would make perfect sense.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is keen to move the 21-year-old on from the Emirates permanently in the summer according to the Sun.

And Arsenal are looking for around €30 million (£26 million) for the Frenchman according to Fussball Transfers.

West Ham boss David Moyes could have a fairly substantial transfer budget this summer.

The Scot has the £20 million garnered from the sale of Sebastien Haller at his disposal. The Hammers will also try to sell Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko in the summer (The Guardian) as well as Manuel Lanzini (Football Insider).

The first port of call for the West Ham boss this summer will be to bring at least one top-class striker to the London Stadium.

There should be some cash left over, however, and if there is, central midfield is an area we desperately need to strengthen.

West Ham should swoop in for Arsenal ace Matteo Guendouzi

The Hammers are far too reliant on Tomas Soucek and Declan Rice. Moyes has only Mark Noble in reserve.

It is clear that West Ham need more dynamism, energy and youth in the middle of the park. And Gunners star Guendouzi could be the ideal option for us.

The 21-year-old is currently on loan in the Bundesliga with Hertha Berlin.

Guendouzi has impressed in Germany. in 15 Bundesliga games for Hertha Berlin this season, the midfielder has scored two goals and has averaged 0.7 key passes, 1.5 dribbles, 0.8 tackles and one interception per game. He has averaged 47.5 passes per game with an impressive completion rate of 87.5% (Who Scored).

Guendouzi ideal summer signing for West Ham

The former Lorient starlet is a tenacious tackler, aggressive presser and has real composure for someone so young.

Sure, there have been some worrying reports about his character both on and off the pitch. He’s only young, however, and will undoubtedly grow in maturity as time goes on.

Signing Arsenal ace Guendouzi could be a masterstroke from West Ham.

Whether the Hammers owners would be prepared to part with anything close to £26 million in order to secure his selves, however, remains to be seen.
