Benfica will demand €120 million (£104 million) in January for West Ham and Manchester United transfer target Enzo Fernandez.

That’s according to a report from Jornal de Noticias (print edition November 28th, page 36) who claim that Benfica will demand the Argentina international’s full £104 million release clause, if they are to let him go in January.

That’s obviously terrible news for the Hammers.

West Ham boss David Moyes is reportedly eyeing a move to bring the five-capped Argentina international to the London Stadium (Fichajes), whilst Portuguese media outlet Record recently reported that Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag wants to bring him to Old Trafford.

The 21-year-old has really impressed for Argentina at the World Cup out in Qatar this winter, so it’s little wonder as to why he’s such hot property at the moment…

Manchester United in pole position to beat West Ham to Enzo Fernandez in January

£104 million is a fee that the Hammers obviously won’t be able to pay for the Argentinian star.

Man United have proven on numerous occasions that they are prepared to go big in the transfer market when they really want to though.

It’s clear to see that West Ham don’t have a chance of signing Enzo Fernandez, with Benfica demanding such a huge fee.

It’s a shame really, because Fernandez is a hugely talented player.

He has been described as an ‘unreal’ player by well-renowned Twitter scout account Statman Dave. Meanwhile, Lionel Messi has labelled his international teammate as ‘spectacular’ (Goal).

Fernandez has bagged one goal and three assists in 13 league games for Benfica so far this season (Who Scored).

During those appearances, the 21-year-old has averaged two tackles and one interception per game. In his 13 league outings for Benfica this term, Fernandez has made 94.3 passes on average and has recorded a completion rate of 89.9% (Who Scored).

He has also scored for Argentina out in Qatar at the World Cup.

The Argentinian ace is an orthodox central midfielder by trade, but he can also operate in the deep-lying central role.

The 21-year-old has a great engine, is technically very good and has an exceptional range of passing.

Enzo Fernandez would be a truly superb addition for either West Ham or Manchester United in the January transfer window.

It’s clear to see now that the Hammers will have no chance of signing the 21-year-old, if Benfica really do demand £104 million for his signature.

However, that may well be a different story for Man United, what with their far superior spending power.
