Opinion: David Moyes’s alleged number one target could be a GSB masterstroke for just £25m

West Ham boss David Moyes has a lot of work to do in the January transfer window and he will be hoping that GSB back him to the hilt.

The Hammers’ need for an established striker to compete with Michail Antonio has been well-documented. We are scoring goals for fun at the moment, however.

That doesn’t mean to say that West Ham don’t need to sign a striker, of course we do. Maybe that’s something that can wait though. At least until the end of the January transfer window.

Perhaps it could be argued that the addition of a top-class centre-back should actually be Moyes’s main priority this month.

And it seems as though that is exactly the way Moyes sees things.

David Moyes signing centre-back for £25m could be a GSB Masterstroke

One player to have been recently linked with a move to the London Stadium is Monaco starlet Benoît Badiashile.

In fact, he is West Ham United’s number one January target according to a report from Foot Mercato.

He is thought to be valued at around £25 million this month, once again according to FM.

What sensational business that would be for the Hammers.

Badiashile is an unbelievable young talent and he has everything needed to go on and become a future star in the game.

Standing at 6ft 4in tall, the young Frenchman is aerially dominant as proved by the 4.3 aerial duels his has won on average per game this season in the Europa League (Who Scored).

He’s agile, strong and has an incredible spring.

Badiashile is exceptional with the ball at his feet. Not only is his a rugged, no-nonsense competitor but he is also brilliant when passing out from the back and beating the press.

Considering his size, the Monaco ace is pretty quick along the ground. He obviously has something very special about him and was recently dubbed the ‘new Raphael Varane’ by Spanish publication AS.

If he can go on to emulate Varane, the 20-year-old will be an absolute snip at just £25 million.

Crucially, Badiashile is left-footed. West Ham are desperately in need of a new left-footed centre-back and not just because Angelo Ogbonna is out injured for the season.

The Italian will be 34 before the start of next term. So a long-term replacement for Oggy will be an absolute necessity this month.

Badiashile is the perfect candidate for the job at West Ham.

And if the Hammers manage to sign him for around £25 million, it would have to be classed as an absolute masterstroke by David Moyes and GSB.
