Nicolas Pepe to West Ham claim makes absolutely zero sense

West Ham United have allegedly explored the possibility of signing Arsenal attacker Nicolas Pepe this summer.

That’s according to a report from Spanish publication Fichajes who reckon that the Hammers, Everton and Leicester have all shown interest in the acquiring the 27-year-old Arsenal man’s signature in the summer transfer window.

Miguel Delaney claimed back in April that West Ham are keen to sign Pepe from Arsenal before the start of the 2022/23 season.

Let’s all be real here though. There is surely no chance on earth that Hammers boss David Moyes wants to bring the 34-capped Ivory Coast international to the London Stadium.

The 27-year-old has really struggled at The Emirates since making his £72 million move to Arsenal from Lille way back in the summer of 2018 (BBC).

And we highly doubt that Moyes is keen to bring him to West Ham…

West Ham apparently want to sign Nicolas Pepe from Arsenal

Fichajes claim that the 27-year-old Gunners attacker is a summer transfer target for the Hammers.

I’m sorry but we just don’t believe this to be true.

Firstly, there is absolutely no way the left footed right winger is getting into the West Ham team ahead of Jarrod Bowen.

He just doesn’t seem to be suited to the robust nature of the Premier League.

Pepe has only bagged 27 goals and 21 assists in 112 games for the Gunners (Transfermarkt). More importantly though, he has never really taken a game by the scruff of the neck and dominated.

The Ivorian has rarely shown any kind of defensive responsibility when playing for Arsenal either.

Moyes places huge emphasis on his attacking players tracking back and putting in a shift inside their own third.

The Arsenal attacker just doesn’t fit into what the Scot is trying to build at the London Stadium.

If the Hammers are going to strengthen the wide attacking department this summer, we would expect Moyes to move for a younger and more hungry player than the Gunners man.

And we would be hugely surprised if West Ham signed Nicolas Pepe this summer.
