West Ham are the only Premier League club not to have made a new signing yet with the window closing on Monday.

Meanwhile Newcastle have been busy making some quality additions to Steve Bruce’s side.

West Ham have already missed out on three reported transfer targets to Newcastle.

West Ham beaten to trio by Newcastle

David Moyes wanted Newcastle new boys Jeff Hendrick, Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser at West Ham (The Sun).

The Hammers were trumped by the Magpies for the trio, much to the anger of West Ham fans – particularly after then being beaten by them 2-0 on the opening day.

Now Newcastle look set to make it four targets they have beaten West Ham to as they reportedly lead the bidding for Juventus defender Daniele Rugani.

Rugani could make it four as Magpies leapfrog Valencia and West Ham – report

But reports emerged this week claiming the is set to be unveiled by Valencia instead (Cadena CopeFootball Espana and Football Italia).

Now Sportitalia and Football Italia claim Newcastle have come in with a higher bid and are leading the chase for the 26-year-old who has seven caps for Italy.

“Newcastle United are reportedly ready to improve upon Valencia’s offer for Juventus defender Daniele Rugani,” (Sportitalia and Football Italia).

“The centre-back is on the market, as he has fallen down the pecking order over the last year and is not part of Andrea Pirlo’s plans. Valencia had been the hot favourites for his signature, ahead of Sevilla, Fulham and West Ham United.

“However, now Sportitalia claim that Newcastle United are stepping in with an offer that is higher than the Valencia bid. Newcastle are looking to Serie A for new defenders, as they have also been in talks with Sampdoria for Gambia international Omar Colley.”

Serious question marks over Hammers recruitment

If Newcastle beat West Ham to a fourth signing of the window, it raises serious questions over the Hammers’s recruitment.

Supporters would understand if West Ham were being beaten to signings by a club in Europe or offering big money.

But these are deals West Ham should be able to pull off. Particularly with the lure of London. And having moved to their new 60,000 seater stadium which was supposed to improve their ability to sign top players.

It remains to be seen whether West Ham make any new signings. Unpopular co-owner David Sullivan warned last week it may not be possible (talkSPORT).
