West Ham United’s season burst into life on Sunday night with a fantastic 4-0 thumping of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
West Ham the only club in ‘genuine negotiations’ for target – report
Dark clouds had started to gather around West Ham of late.
Back-to-back Premier League defeats and a horror fixture list on paper had fans and pundits predicting a dire situation for the east Londoners.
But the resounding win over Wolves, sparked by a brace from Jarrod Bowen and goals from Tomas Soucek – I’m giving it to him even if the dubious goals panel aren’t – and Sebastien Haller lifted the Hammers up to 10th in the fledgling table.

West Ham win lifts the gloom
And suddenly for West Ham fans the world seems a brighter place.
It comes after another week or turmoil off the pitch at West Ham. There has been animosity from fans and players towards co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold and vice-chairman Karren Brady, particularly after the sale of Grady Diangana to West Brom.
Last week Sullivan put his head above the parapet and somehow made things worse with an interview on talkSPORT.
He even bemoaned the club progressing in the Carabao Cup as it would cost West Ham £50,000 to pay for travel to the next round at Everton.
Meanwhile Brady continued to anger West Ham fans with her latest column in The Sun.
In it she had a pop at Bowen’s former club Hull – where he still has many close friends (whufc.com) – over their refusal to take up West Ham’s offer of Covid-19 tests. Brady said Hull were ‘stubborn and blindly dismissive’.

Bowen offers ham-fisted explanation for zip mouth celebration
Hammers fans want the board to stop airing the club’s dirty linen in public.
And so too does Bowen, if his celebrations against Wolves are anything to go by.
That’s according to some West Ham fans who aren’t buying Bowen’s explanation for the ‘zip mouth’ celebration following both of his goals against Wolves.
Speaking on BT Sport after the game, Bowen said the celebration was aimed at his ‘friends back home’.
But many West Ham fans believe it was very much aimed at GSB.
Only Bowen knows the truth, but it has to be said his explanation on BT Sport seemed a bit ham-fisted.
Perhaps there is a siege mentality among the players vs the board.
And if it produces this kind of performance long may it continue.
