West Ham are said to be battling Newcastle for the signing of Oscar Mingueza in the January transfer window.

However, according to a report from AS, Mingueza’s next destination will depend heavily on how much money he is offered.

It goes without saying that Newcastle are in a far stronger position than West Ham financially.

So with that in mind, the Magpies will hold a huge advantage over the Hammers in the race for Mingueza’s signature.

Missing out on the Spaniard would be a big blow for the Hammers.

The technically gifted Celta Vigo ace would add so much to West Ham’s build-up play.

He is a right-back by trade, but he often drifts into midfield due to his exceptional ability on the ball.

Mingueza has a €20 million (£17.5 million) release clause inserted into his Celta Vigo contract (Mundo Deportivo), and that sounds like very good value indeed.

The four-capped Spain international has averaged 1.6 tackles, 1.1 clearances and 1.3 dribbles per game across 16 La Liga appearances for Celta Vigo this season (Who Scored).

The 26-year-old is very comfortable with the ball at his feet and the verticality of his passing really is very impressive.

Mingueza would be the ideal January transfer window signing for West Ham but as things stand, Newcastle may well be favourites for his signature.
