West Ham United v Manchester City - Premier League

Newcastle could break West Ham hearts yet again with summer transfer window move to sign 27-year-old

West Ham face competition from Newcastle yet again, this time for the signing of James Ward-Prowse from Southampton in the summer transfer window.

That’s according to a report from The Mirror who claim that Hammers boss David Moyes is targeting a summer swoop for the 27-year-old Saints star but he allegedly has ‘admirers’ at Newcastle as well.

Magpies boss Eddie Howe has made 11th hour moves for Alphonse Areola and Nayef Aguerd according to RMC Sport and Claret and Hugh.

Losing out on either of those two players would be truly heartbreaking for the Hammers. And it seems as though we could have yet another problem on the horizon…

West Ham face Newcastle competition for summer transfer window James Ward-Prowse signing

The Mirror reckons that the 27-year-old Southampton ace has keen admirers at St James’ Park.

And if the Toon do make a move to sign the England international, the Hammers will undoubtedly face a real battle this summer.

Newcastle have far greater financial muscle than we do. The Tyneside outfit have real ambitions of challenging England’s elite over the next few years under their ambitious new ownership.

West Ham, meanwhile, seem to be standing still at the moment. It’s still very early days of course, and we will reserve judgement until the transfer window closes. We just really hope that Newcastle don’t beat us to Ward-Prowse this summer.

The 11-capped England international is a sensational footballer and has been dubbed as the best set-piece taker in world football by Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.

Ward-Prowse enjoyed his best season ever for Southampton last term, bagging 11 goals and eight assists in 42 games (Transfermarkt).

The central midfielder possesses exceptional technique, is a magnificent passer of the football and has a very impressive engine.

The 27-year-old is truly incredible from dead-ball situations as well. His free-kick and corner taking technique has been described as ‘unreal’ (Give Me Sport).

Considering how much emphasis David Moyes places on set-pieces, it’s easy to see why signing Ward-Prowse would be very high up on the Scot’s priority list.

However, it seems as though Newcastle could be set to scupper West Ham United’s plans in the summer transfer window yet again.

Hopefully the fact that we can offer Ward-Prowse European football will tip the scales back in our favour.
