A mysterious medical claim has been made as West Ham mean business with a move for a tigerish midfielder too ahead of the January window.

The winter window is fast approaching and West Ham look set to relatively busy despite their summer splurge.

David Moyes signed eight players in the summer window, seven of them new arrivals.

But given that West Ham were already three players short and saw several more first team players depart, Moyes still has a lack of quality and depth in certain areas of his team.

It has showed on the pitch with the Hammers languishing just one point off the bottom three.

Recent reports claimed West Ham will not be particularly active during the January window with the owners wanting to see Moyes get the best out of his summer signings. Those reports did, however, state that the club may look at loan deals with options.

And the reality looks somewhat different with several players being heavily linked with a move to the London Stadium.

One such player is Brazilian defender Luizao who has been consistently linked with a free transfer to West Ham from Sao Paulo for several months.

Last week it was reported that Moyes could lose out on Luizao after a twist over the deal due to agent fees.

But somewhat out of the blue it seems the Brazilian centre-back was smuggled into the club on Monday. And he could be joined at West Ham by one of his teammates.

According to 90min, Luizao arrived at West Ham on Monday for a medical.

In this modern day and age you would expect the player to have been caught on camera by fans or arriving at the airport by the likes of Sky Sports.

West Ham appear to have managed to keep it all very low key, though, with claims they want to make it a double deal by bringing over Pablo Maia as well.

A couple of weeks ago we cited reports claiming West Ham were interested in the midfielder who has been likened to N’Golo Kante.

But it seemed West Ham might have to wait until the summer to get their man.

Now 90min claims Maia could be joining his Sao Paulo teammates in east London on a loan to buy deal.

“Luizao is not the only Sao Paulo player West Ham United hope to sign in the January transfer window, sources have confirmed to 90min…” the report states.

90min understands that Luizao arrived in England on Monday ahead of a planned medical, but he is not the only Sao Paulo player that West Ham hope to bring in.

“Exploratory talks have also been held with the Brazilian giants over a deal for Pablo Maia, who is also 20, although West Ham and Sao Paulo are yet to agree the structure of a potential move.”

This would be a great double deal for West Ham in two key areas where more quality is desperately needed – especially with the spectre of Declan Rice’s departure looming large at the end of the season.
