Max Kilman’s unhappy time at West Ham United is now almost “certain” to come to an end, according to BBC Sport’s chief football writer Simon Stone.
Though not to blame the wider failings of the team over the last few years on one individual, it’s hard to imagine many West Ham United fans feeling too bad about that.
How do you feel about fans booing Max Kilman? 😳
Kilman has proven to be a dreadful signing for the club, and the flawed recruitment policy behind the scenes here in east London is as much to blame for that as the player himself.
Indeed, Kilman has been booed by West Ham fans, following a series of high-profile mistakes since joining from Wolves in an eye-watering £40million deal.
As such, he’s been tipped for an exit, and Stone certainly believes that it can now be considered likely.
Kilman expected to leave West Ham United soon
Stone ran an ‘Ask Me Anything’ session on BBC Sport’s website.
He was asked if there was any way that West Ham could recoup the money they spent on Kilman back in 2024.
“I still think Kilman is an excellent player, very mature but for whatever reason, it has not worked out at the London Stadium,” he wrote.
What is the WEIRDEST West Ham transfer you can remember? 😵💫
Surely Faubert to Real Madrid is up there…
“It is a reality that every club overpays for players that don’t turn out to be worth anything like the sums involved, but it is not a sale or return, you can only wince and try to do better next time. It seems certain Kilman will leave but I wouldn’t be surprised if he does well somewhere else.”
Stone’s comments would suggest that is unlikely, which will be of little surprise to anyone who has watched the defender during his days clad in claret and blue.

The BBC writer adds that it’s almost certain that Kilman will be leaving the club, though he predicted the 28-year-old could go on to find success elsewhere.
Frankly, it’s better for all parties if Kilman’s time at the club comes to an end once this season is complete, no matter what happens.
It cannot be easy to have been booed by your own fans, which looks very difficult to come back from.
West Ham have to accept they are going to make a significant loss here. It is now in everyone’s best interests that Kilman leaves the club this summer.
