West Ham supporters fume at ‘disgraceful’ behaviour directed towards Max Kilman during Leeds clash

West Ham supporters are disappointed with the nasty behaviour shown towards Max Kilman during the FA Cup quarter-final.

The out-of-form defender almost conceded a penalty in the first half for a bad challenge on Leeds’ Anton Stach.

He then left referee Craig Pawson with no choice but to point to the spot after a VAR review for a tackle on Brenden Aaronson.

Some fans inside the London Stadium booed Kilman following his costly mistake, but this has since been condemned.

How do you feel about fans booing Max Kilman? 😳

West Ham fans completely disagree with booing Max Kilman

Hammers News asked West Ham supporters on TalkingPoints whether Max Kilman deserved to be booed against Leeds on Sunday.

While most would agree that Kilman let his team down with another calamitous error, the majority were still appalled by the booing.

“Disgraceful to boo your own player,” a fan shared. “It nearly came to fights in our stand as die-hard fans turned on the day-trippers doing the booing.”

One commented, “Why would you boo your own players? I was as astounded and unhappy as anyone else to see Kilman’s name in the starting lineup, but he would feed off fan support as much as any player. Disgusting behaviour!”

“This shouldn’t happen to one of our players,” read another response. “If he didn’t go for the tackle, he would have been criticised for standing off. As supporters, our job is to support the team through thick and thin.”

One supporter also explained that booing the team had already had a destructive impact on the players earlier this season.

“It’s childish,” they explained. “Booing the whole team in the Autumn contributed to them playing badly. It’s not nice and it doesn’t help.”

“True fans don’t boo their own player,” a Hammers fan reiterated. “I was disappointed with his mistake, but disgusted with brainless semi-supporters. Booing Kilman was detrimental and certainly didn’t do anything for his confidence. Instead of booing your own, don’t bother turning up.”

Everyone in the stadium and watching around the world could see that Kilman was having a difficult afternoon, so why add insult to injury?

As our TalkingPoints users have suggested, Hammers supporters should encourage Kilman in future games rather than make him feel even worse.
