Marseille president Pablo Longoria has broken his silence on the future of Duje Caleta-Car amid reports linking the centre-back with a move to West Ham.

The 25-year-old Marseille defender could be available for just £8 million this summer according to Foot Mercato.

Hammers boss David Moyes has been trying to sign the Croatian for over a year now (The Daily Mail).

Caleta-Car spoke out after a move to join West Ham broke down in January, suggesting that he was ‘tired’ of the constant talk in the media regarding his future.

Moyes desperately needs to bring a new centre-back to the London Stadium with Issa Diop having left to join Fulham, Nayef Aguerd out injured and Angelo Ogbonna nowhere near match fit.

It seems as though the Scot will have a great chance to do just that for a very reasonable fee indeed…

Marseille president Pablo Longoria speaks out on West Ham target Duje Caleta-Car

Longoria sat down with Foot Mercato and insisted that Marseille are not prepared to lose the 25-year-old on a free transfer next summer:

“Olympique de Marseille will not have a player at the end of their contract. It is very clear in the club’s policy, and we spoke with the player and his representatives.”

That’s great news for West Ham United and Moyes must now not hesitate to bring Caleta-Car to the London Stadium.

The 25-year-old is tall and commanding in the air and very comfortable with the ball at his feet as well. He is a very strong all-round defender and he would improve the Hammers’ back-line immeasurably. Well-renowned football analysis and scouting website IBWM recently described Caleta-Car as an ‘exceptional talent’.

With the Ligue 1 outfit now demanding just £8 million for the 25-year-old centre-back, Moyes can’t afford to miss out on him, given the current circumstances.

That really is peanuts in this day and age.

Let’s hope that we see Duje Caleta-Car at the London Stadium very soon.
