Fabianski future under the spotlight

Fabianski has been one of the best goalkeepers in West Ham’s modern history.

And his importance to the team was highlighted last season when an injury to the Hammers number one saw the club’s campaign spiral into freefall after a superb start which saw West Ham being tipped to challenge for a European place.

There have been question marks over Fabianski in some matches since his return from that injury.

Not too long ago there were reports were doing the rounds that David Moyes was concerned about his number one.

The likes of The Daily Mail and Claret & Hugh claimed Moyes and his management team felt Fabianski was ‘regressing’.

Hammers No.1 reveals he is set for West Ham extension

He has been more like his old self this season, though.

And it appears West Ham will buy themselves more time to find a successor by handing Fabianski a new two-year deal.

According to the player himself in an interview with WeszloFM, the contract will be agreed soon.

And Fabianski has revealed the reasons why he wants to stay.

“Talks are ongoing,” Fabianski told WeszloFM.

“I’d like to stay at West Ham. Extend the contract because I feel good here.  I have to look at my son because he started school and I wouldn’t want to put him in a situation where he would have to change school every year.

‘We will come to an agreement quickly, there is a desire on both sides to extend’

“Here he finds himself well, here the climate favours him. I do not know (if the new contract will be announced soon).

“I don’t focus on it very much. We will come to an agreement quickly. There is a desire on both sides to extend the contract.”

West Ham fans have urged the club to look at Alphonse Areloa or Nick Pope as Fabianski’s long-term successor.

Should West Ham follow up on those wishes, any moves may be expedited by relegation with both Fulham and Burnley in the mix this season.
