A journalist has suggested a clash is on the cards between David Moyes and the West Ham hierarchy over a transfer.
The fact West Ham are very much on the hunt for new signings in the January transfer window is no great secret.
Indeed manager David Moyes admitted as much after the embarrassing FA Cup exit at Bristol City on Tuesday night.
The problem is the winter is – and always has been – a difficult window in which to do business.
That being said some of West Ham’s best ever signings have been made in January with Jarrod Bowen, Tomas Soucek and Jesse Lingard three prime examples.
Moyes and Steidten found middleground
In the summer technical director Tim Steidten oversaw one of the best transfer windows in West Ham’s modern history.
Using the money from Declan Rice and Gianluca Scamacca to sign Edson Alvarez, Mohammed Kudus, Konstantinos Mavropanos and James Ward-Price was inspired business.
So expectations among Hammers fans are understandably high.
Ward-Prowse was very much a signing driven by Moyes in the summer. It was not necessarily a transfer in keeping with Steidten’s recruitment philosophy. But a middleground was found and the deal was done at around £30m.

Moyes has undoubtedly been vindicated over that signing with Ward-Prowse scoring three goals and laying on 10 assists at the halfway stage of the season.
Now the manager is said to be pushing for another player in a similar bracket.

Writing on SportsLens, reporter Dean Jones claims Moyes is really driving West Ham’s pursuit of Man City outcast Kalvin Phillips.
But the Hammers hierarchy are not convinced it is the right move.
‘Key figures unconvinced’
“West Ham’s transfer plans remain unclear on all three fronts with two weeks left of the window,” Jones states.
“The club have been in discussions over signings in defence, midfield and attack since before the start of January – yet their intentions are clouded.
“David Moyes is leading their interest in Phillips, yet other key figures at the club remain unconvinced over the idea and feel the figures around it might be obstructive anyway.”
We’ve been here before haven’t we. But in the end Steidten and Moyes found common ground with both having an influence over incomings.
