Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has highlighted just how impressive West Ham United’s deal to sign Said Benrahma actually was.
The Hammers’ proposed deal to sign the 25-year-old winger was in danger of collapsing late on yesterday due to problems with the Algerian’s medical.
But West Ham got a deal to sign Benrahma over the line in the end.
The structure of the transfer changed slightly. We paid Brentford a £4 million loan fee and are obliged to pay £21 million next summer to make the deal a permanent one (Guardian).
Benrahma will undoubtedly be a hit at the London Stadium. The 25-year-old absolutely lit up the Championship last season. And £25 million for the Algeria international seems like sensational business for David Moyes.
Respected Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano took to Twitter to highlight just how well West Ham did in bringing Benrahma to east London:
Top deal for West Ham.
Saïd Benrahma was on the list of two Champions League clubs for January 2021 transfer window… and he turned down an approach from Italy on August.#CFC never been close to sign him last summer.
Difficult deal… but now done and here-we-go for #WHUFC 🤝

Let’s hope that the 25-year-old lives up to his billing. He has the ability to change a game in an instant.
Benrahma is a maverick. And the West Ham fans absolutely adore a talented and skilful eccentric free spirt.
You need look no further than Paolo Di Canio and Dimitri Payet.
And if Benrahma is even half as good as those two, he will be worth every penny for the Hammers.
