A journalist has confirmed West Ham want to sign a striker who bagged a hat-trick in his last game as David Moyes readies a bid for Youssef En-Nesyri.

The name En-Nesyri will be a familiar one to West Ham fans.

The Hammers have been linked with the Sevilla striker for some time now.

But the Spanish club rejected West Ham’s advances amid talk of a £35m move – something a recent report suggests they regret (Sport Witness).

West Ham got a measure of revenge when they knocked Sevilla and En-Nesyri out of the Europa League last season.

Alphonse Areola famously made a memorable point blank save from the reported West Ham striker target before the Hammers turned the tie around on their run to the semi-finals.

Last month it was claimed En-Nesyri is keen on a move to West Ham in January and Sevilla want to sell.

Now a respected journalist has confirmed West Ham want to sign the striker who bagged a hat-trick in his last game as Moyes readies a new En-Nesyri bid.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein West Ham will launch a new bid for Nayef Aguerd’s Morocco teammate this month.

Ornstein claims West Ham will try to sign the striker on loan but may have to include an obligation to buy in order to seal the deal with Sevilla.

West Ham have struggled to score goals all season and the club’s owners let it be known they are willing to back Moyes by bringing in another forward this month.

Moyes was said to be keen to stick to what he has but this week changed his stance, insisting he could be active in the window.

A year ago, this column revealed West Ham’s pursuit of Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri, with an offer to sign the Morocco international permanently in a €30million (£25m) deal rejected by the Spanish club,” Ornstein reports for The Athletic.

“Twelve months on, The Athletic understands they have made a fresh approach for En-Nesyri, who started all seven games and scored two goals as his country made a surprise run to the semi-finals at the recent World Cup.

“This time, the initial proposal is to take the 25-year-old on loan and while that might not entice Sevilla, if it was to include an option or obligation to buy at the end of the loan there is a chance it could carry greater appeal.”

En-Nesyri scored a hat-trick as Sevilla beat third-tier opposition Juventud Torremolinos 5-0 in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday.

West Ham certainly need another option up front. Michail Antonio turns 33 in March – 34 next season – and has struggled for any kind of form or goals for over a year now.

Gianluca Scamacca has showed signs of being a class act for the Hammers. But West Ham have struggled to provide him with service and proper goalscoring opportunities.
