Josh Brownhill is a target for West Ham ahead of busy summer transfer window

Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill is allegedly a target for West Ham United ahead of the summer transfer window.

That’s according to a report from 90 Min who claim that Hammers boss David Moyes wants to bolster his central midfielder department at the London Stadium this summer.

Mark Noble has now retired whilst Alex Kral’s days at West Ham are surely numbered after an underwhelming loan spell this season.

Moyes needs to add more Premier League proven options to his ranks at the London Stadium before the start of next term.

The Hammers seem to be on the cusp of building something special. The addition of some quality in the middle of the park will be key if we are to move up to another level next season though…

Josh Brownhill a West Ham target

90 Min reckon that the 26-year-old Burnley midfielder is firmly on the Hammers’ radar ahead of the summer transfer window.

Brownhill would be a very useful addition to Moyes’s squad. He is a very combative central midfielder and is a tenacious tackler with an uncanny knack for intercepting the ball and interrupting the opposition’s play.

The former Bristol City ace had 69 interceptions in 33 Premier League games for Burnley last season.

He was second on the list behind Southampton’s centre-back Jan Bednarek. This year he’s fourth on the list with 68 (Premier League).

Brownhill has also bagged two goals and three assists in 35 Premier League games for Burnley so far this season (Transfermarkt).

The English midfielder is an extremely hard-worker and that is what probably appeals most to the Hammers and Moyes.

Interestingly, Brownhill actually rejected a move to West Ham back in 2020 (BBC). And it now seems as though he could go full circle.

If Josh Brownhill really is a target for West Ham, we won’t be too unhappy. He’d be a decent addition to the Hammers squad.

Let’s hope that David Moyes has some more ambitious moves lined up for some elite players as well though.
