Now attentions turn to the huge Europa League quarter-final against Lyon with the first leg at the London Stadium on Thursday night.

It has been a remarkable rise for West Ham under Moyes over the last two years.

And two men in particular have been key to it namely Moyes and his star player Rice.

Speculation over Rice’s future has been incessant for a long time with links to Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Most fans and pundits are of the opinion that the Hammers must make the Champions League – which West Ham will do if they finish fourth or win the Europa League – in order to keep Rice at the club.

Terry recently declared that he loves what West Ham boss Moyes is doing at his boyhood club.

Speaking on Astro Super Sport at the weekend, the Chelsea legend admits Rice will soon face a crossroads over his West Ham future and believes there is another way the Hammers can keep their talisman.

Terry sent a clear message to the West Ham owners over summer transfers as Moyes faces a big rebuild and a battle to keep Rice.

Because the former defender says one way of keeping Rice would be for the club’s owners to back Moyes and show ambition in the transfer market.

“I think the rejection he (Rice) had from Chelsea has really helped his career actually,” Terry said on Astro Super Sport when asked about the future of Rice, who was released by Chelsea before joining West Ham at 14.

“What he’s done at West Ham is pretty much incredible… I think from Dec’s side of things, I think he’s given everything to West Ham.

“And for me, looking from the outside, unless West Ham go and make a big statement in the summer and go and spend £100million plus and say: ‘We want to keep Dec and we want to bring in top players like you’ then I think he’s got a decision to make.

“I think if West Ham go and spend huge amounts of money, bring in top players, then I think it’s difficult for him to walk away.”

Terry is spot on.

Moyes last week warned Wests Ham’s owners he must be backed in the summer as he faces a big rebuild.

It is the least Moyes deserves too for the miraculous job he has done at West Ham.
