Jesse Lingard posts show him ‘grinding’ for a contract and watching West Ham win as signing decision looms.

The summer transfer window may have closed last night but West Ham are still expected to make one final addition in the shape of Jesse Lingard.

Lingard is a free agent after being released by Forest, who he joined ahead of West Ham last summer.

The midfielder shone during his unforgettable six-month loan spell at the London Stadium where he helped fire West Ham to within one win of Champions League qualification and their record Premier League points total.

Although Lingard signing was not bound by the transfer window restrictions, the Hammers will have to make that move soon if he is to be included in the official squad submitted to the Premier League by next week.

Initially, going by the reaction on social media and fan forums, Hammers supporters were largely against the idea of re-signing Lingard.

But the frost has thawed and West Ham fans are – on the whole – now much more open to the idea.

Particularly in light of West Ham’s failure to sign a striker before the deadline given Lingard’s ability to play up front or as a second forward.

Some mischief making on social media yesterday suggested Lingard was not at training with West Ham ahead of their game at Luton.

Someone really wants to sign for league-leading Hammers

Lingard posted a picture on Snapchat on Friday showing himself sweating in the changing rooms at West Ham alongside the caption ‘the grind don’t stop’ and a heart emoji.

The former Hammers hero was sitting in front of a locker with a blank nameplate and next to Edson Alvarez’s spot.

Then later on Friday evening Lingard posted a picture of him watching West Ham’s game at Luton on TV.

The 30-year-old posted the image to his Instagram stories as West Ham beat the Hatters 2-1 to go back to the top of the Premier League table.

The images have since been re-posted by Hammers fans on social media.

You can see them in the posts above and below.
