Disciplinary record a concern for some

An often volatile personality, the 23-year-old picked up five red cards and 18 yellows in 51 appearances last season.

It is the 30 goals that are attracting West Ham, though.

And former Hammer Defoe has good news for his old club if they do push for his Rangers teammate.

Defoe told the Daily Record Morelos seems to have matured over the summer, just like he was forced to when his own hot-headed behaviour saw him collect a spate of red cards while playing for West Ham many years ago.

Former Hammer has good news about teammate

“Alfredo is a lot more relaxed and calm this season,” Defoe told the Daily Record.

“To be fair, when I was younger, I was a little bit like him. I remember a spell at West Ham when I was sent off three times before Christmas. I missed 13 games and in the evenings I was just coaching the kids because I had nothing else to do.

“It comes to a point where you think, ‘You know what, I’m missing games – and they are the matches I could be scoring goals in’.

“I can imagine at some point he must have said, ‘You know what, I can’t be getting sent off’. He had scored 30 goals by that stage and could have ended the season with 36.”

So there you have it West Ham fans, any concerns about Morelos’s propensity to cost his team dear have been allayed.

Now West Ham just have to find the funds to tempt Rangers into a deal before the window shuts in less than two weeks.

Gerrard has already warned the likes of West Ham the conditions if they want to have any hope of signing Morelos, read the full story here.
