Insider: Secret meeting looks to have sealed West Ham’s first signing of busy summer as Nayef Aguerd nears move
Now a West Ham insider has claimed a secret meeting looks to have sealed West Ham’s first signing of a busy summer as Aguerd nears a move to the London Stadium.
In an exclusive report, Claret and Hugh claim Aguerd flew into London earlier this week for a ‘clandestine’ meeting which looks to have sealed the deal to bring the Morocco star to the east end.
“We broke the news exclusively on Monday that the player was close to joining the club and that a fee was almost agreed at around £30 million euros,” Claret and Hugh claim.
“The clandestine meeting happened in the last 48 hours with the Moroccan flying back to France afterwards…
“The Hammers are said to be quietly confident they can agree the fee with Rennes as well as personal terms with Aguerd.”
What what will Aguerd bring?
It is easy to see why Moyes has taken a liking to the left-sided centre-back.
Aguerd possesses great strength, agility, athleticism, timing, pace and aggression.
He also clearly possesses a lovely left-foot and range of passing.
That will help West Ham build out from the back, something Moyes has missed without natural left-footed centre-back Angelo Ogbonna for most of the season.
West Ham’s 6ft 2in target is a starter for Morocco with 19 caps. He is also a threat from set pieces – something that would have been key for Moyes too.
A YouTube scouting video highlights Aguerd’s strengths as ‘tackling, passing, agility, aerial duels, determination, positioning, concentration and composure’.
And under weaknesses it states the defender has “no significant weaknesses”.
