Insider says Hammers boss David Moyes could pull off a transfer masterstroke by completely changing his West Ham plans.

It is no secret that West Ham are in the hunt for defenders this month after losing three of their first choice back four to long-term injuries.

Angelo Ogbonna is out for the season after an ACL operation while Kurt Zouma will be out until February at the earliest.

Aaron Cresswell has been missing since November 28th after chipping a bone in his back when colliding with a post during West Ham’s defeat at Man City.

West Ham have been heavily linked with Liverpool defender Nat Phillips and Burnley contract rebel James Tarkowski.

Indeed insiders Claret and Hugh claimed last month that West Ham were ‘already in talks with agents’ of those two prime Moyes January targets.

Tarkowski has been a longstanding target of Moyes. The Scot wanted to sign the England international last summer but West Ham would not meet Burnley’s £45m asking price.

The former Brentford defender is out of contract in the summer and has made it clear he will not be penning a new deal at Turf Moor.

Now Claret and Hugh claim Moyes could pull off yet another transfer masterstroke by changing his January plans and signing Tarkowski on a free transfer this summer instead.

Insider says David Moyes could pull off transfer masterstroke by completely changing West Ham plans

The site, which has direct links to the West Ham boardroom, claims Moyes is monitoring the situation closely this month but could save the Hammers millions by biding his time.

“David Moyes will keep a very close eye on developments involving James Tarkowski this month and will try to sign him on a free transfer in the summer if Burnley reject all offers,” Claret and Hugh state.

“The Irons boss has revealed that he does want to sign a player who is more likely to be available at the end of the season than this month. And we believe that player may well be Tarkowski, who has impressed throughout his time under Sean Dyche at Turf Moor.

“He is a huge fan of Tarkowski and sanctioned a big bid worth £34m last year, only for Burnley to reject the offer and stand firm on keeping the England international at the club…

“If he decides to remain at the club, the Hammers are almost certain to put together a package to try to sign him on a free at the end of the season.”

Getting a player West Ham were willing to pay nearly £35m for – who was valued at £45-50m – for NOTHING may just be Moyes’s biggest transfer masterstroke yet if he manages to pull it off.
