Insider ExWHUemployee drops Jamal Baptiste bomb that will worry West Ham boss David Moyes

West Ham United may have a new Rio Ferdinand on their hands in Jamal Baptiste but Manchester United are sniffing around him.

Ex makes shock claim about huge blunder West Ham almost made over star man

That’s according to reliable West Ham insider ExWHUemployee.

Academy starlet Jamal Baptiste earning rave reviews

But he is earning rave reviews at West Ham having shone for the club in pre-season.

West Ham star Angelo Ogbonna says he was staggered by the ability and composure the academy starlet showed saying it belied his tender years (whufc.com).

“He (Baptiste) played really, really well and as a young player you can make one or two mistakes, but your behaviour has to be the right one, like Dec (Declan Rice) when he starts,” Ogbonna told the club’s official website.

“Jamal has a lot of work still to do but he is composed. He is still young and has to take things step by step. This was just a pre-season game. He has to follow the senior players and the manager’s instruction and it’s good for him to have people he can look to.”

Defender dubbed West Ham’s ‘new Rio’

And former Hammer Carlton Cole, who is involved with the club’s youth teams, dubbed Baptiste the new Rio.

Speaking on West Ham’s YouTube Show Inside Irons last season, Cole revealed Baptiste had been training with the first team and backed him to follow in the footsteps of Rio and the club’s other great defenders.

“Especially Jamal Baptiste that I’m a massive fan of. Well he’s training with the first team at the moment (which tells you how highly rated he is) so I think he’s definitely a massive prospect,” Cole said on Inside Irons.

“He’s going to be the next Anton Ferdinand hopefully or the next Rio. So hopefully we can these boys on the right track and help them transition into being a professional footballer full-time.”

The club’s official site makes it clear Baptiste is highly rated at West Ham.

Worry for Moyes as insider claims Man United are sniffing around young prodigy

But Moyes will be on red alert, quite literally. That’s after ExWHUemployee revealed Manchester United are taking a keen interest in Baptiste.

“There’s Baptiste (who is highly rated and expected to make the step up to the first team),” Ex said on The West Ham Way podcast November 10th.

“Manchester United are looking at him. Hopefully we’ll hold onto him, I think we will. Manchester United are looking at him at this point.

“A bit of news there.”

West Ham must keep hold of their best young stars.

Moyes has made it clear he wants to build a new-look West Ham around young, hungry players.

So the brightest academy prospects will never have a better chance to forge a Premier League career for themselves.

UPDATE: In the last few moments – as suggested by Ex – West Ham have confirmed they are keeping hold of Baptiste after he signed his first professional contract with the club (whufc.com).

Great news. Baptiste is certainly one for the future.
