Incoming West Ham sporting director Mark Noble has made a shock Liverpool transfer claim after what a coach told him.

West Ham and Liverpool have shared a few column inches when it comes to transfers over the last eight months.

It was well publicised in January that West Ham were trying hard to sign Darwin Nunez (Sky Sports).

The move did not happen and and Liverpool pounced to sign Nunez this summer.

It was the second West Ham move Jurgen Klopp had hijacked after Liverpool snatched Luis Diaz from under Moyes’ nose in January with the Scot believing he had the Colombian all but signed.

The Reds had even been linked with Hammers ace Jarrod Bowen all summer until Mohamed Salah signed his new Liverpool deal.

When West Ham were moving to sign Lucas Paqueta in the summer there was talk Klopp was considering a late bid. And Hammers talisman Declan Rice has also been linked with Liverpool – among a host of other top clubs.

Now it seems the Reds even wanted one of West Ham’s all-time legends too.

Incoming West Ham sporting director Noble has made a shock Liverpool transfer claim after what a coach told him.

Noble brought the curtain down on his 18-year Hammers career back in May and is tipped to be the last of a dying breed of one-club men.

But that would never have been the case if Liverpool had their way according to Noble, who takes up a new role as West Ham sporting director on January.

Speaking on the Happy Hour Podcast, Noble revealed Liverpool were once in for him. And he says West Ham goalkeeper coach Xavi Valero – formerly of Liverpool – confirmed as much.

“There were times when my agent rang me and said ‘Look there’s a lot of interest here’ and when my contract was running down…” Noble told the Happy Hour Podcast.

“Everyone knew my situation and feelings for the club. Could I have at times gone elsewhere and earned more money, of course I could because you earn money from moves and all that.

“Yea (there was interest from Liverpool), actually our goalkeeper coach, who was at Liverpool at the time, Xavi, told me that and he said ‘we spoke about you a lot in meetings’. Obviously that never materialised but when I look back now and I see the send off I got and the loyalty I’d shown to the club and the history I’ve created… an extra few grand a week doesn’t compare to that.”

The revelation may come as something of a shock to West Ham and Liverpool fans.

Imagine Noble lining up alongside the likes of Steven Gerrard back in their heydays.

Ironically the former West Ham midfielder named Gerrard as the best and toughest player he ever faced.

Liverpool fans won’t like Noble’s answer to another question he was asked.

Hammers legend Noble was asked if there was one club he would have signed for if he had to leave and could pick any side.

Noble rapidly responded by naming Liverpool’s bitter rivals Manchester United.
