West Ham United are in a much stronger position than Newcastle United to sign Lucas Paqueta from Lyon this summer.
That’s according to a report from But! Football Club who claim that Newcastle are struggling to convince the 24-year-old to sign for them because he wants to play some kind of European football this season.

And that’s where we believe West Ham should come in.
Hammers boss David Moyes has actually been linked with a move to sign Paqueta recently (CBS journalist Ben Jacobs, when speaking to NUFC Matters YouTube channel). And there’s every chance that we should be able to beat Newcastle to his services this summer.

The Hammers and the Magpies could be set to go head-to-head for the South American star this summer. And we may well hold the upper hand…
West Ham have advantage over Newcastle in Paqueta race
But! Football Club reckon that if the 24-year-old is to leave Lyon this summer, it will be to join a club with some kind of European football on offer.
So it’s clear to see why West Ham may be ahead of Newcastle in the race for Paqueta’s signature.
The 33-capped Brazil international is an attacking midfielder by trade but he can also operate on either wing if need be.
The silky left-footed ace has bagged 20 goals and 13 assists in 77 games for Lyon so far. Last season, he bagged 11 goals and seven assists in 44 appearances for the French side (Transfermarkt).

Paqueta possesses exceptional technique, impressive pace and has a real eye for goal and a killer pass.
When Liverpool were linked with a move to sign him, Reds fan-site Read Liverpool described the South American star as ‘electrifying’.
He has been valued at around €80 million (£67 million) by Football.London whilst Media Foot reckon that Lyon could sell him for as little as €40 million (£34 million).
The second fee would represent sensational value for either the Hammers or the Magpies.
And as things stand, we believe that West Ham should have a big advantage over Newcastle in the race to sign Paqueta, with European football on offer at the London Stadium.
