Get Tim Steidten on the phone because West Ham have surely found their Michail Antonio heir as a report from Bild makes a big Serhou Guirassy claim.

West Ham decided not to push to bring in a new striker in the summer window despite selling Gianluca Scamacca.

The Hammers may get away with that for a few months. But as the schedule ramps it will become increasingly apparent that signing a new forward is the club’s absolute top priority in the coming windows.

Especially if West Ham – as David Moyes has stated several times – want to continue to challenge for the European spots in the Premier League.

Michail Antonio, 34 in March, has been a great servant for West Ham and will continue to have an important role at the club.

But he cannot play every game and against certain opposition West Ham simply require a more clinical, ruthless forward.

Last weekend Hammers News reported on the exploits of one of the club’s alleged striker targets over in Germany.

West Ham were heavily linked with a move for 27-year-old Stuttgart star Serhou Guirassy in the summer.

According to a report from Kicker last month, the Hammers target was available for just £13 million up until August 10th.

But West Ham passed up the chance and Guirassy’s statistics since will have Moyes and technical director Tim Steidten wincing.

We raved about Guirassy last weekend as he made it 11 goals – 10 of them in five Bundesliga games – and two assists in six matches for Stuttgart, helping them up to third in the fledgling table.

Lines of communication between West Ham and Stuttgart are already open following the deal which brought Konstantinos Mavropanos to the London Stadium.

Well get Steidten on the phone because West Ham have surely found their Antonio heir as a report from Bild makes a big Guirassy claim.

According to German outlet Bild, Hammers target Guirassy has a new release clause and it’s just £17.5m.

The clause is active next summer.

And that could work out perfectly for West Ham as they finally look to bring in an heir to Antonio.

Steidten will need to get on the phone quickly, though. Because Bild also reports that Stuttgart are said to be considering buying the striker out of his clause after his blistering start to the season – clearly feeling they can sell him for much more than that in January or the summer.

Guirassy’s form is no flash in the pan. Nayef Aguerd’s former Rennes teammate scored a goal every other game last season.

And his form this season puts him among the leading strikers in world football.

He appears to be perfect for Moyes and his system. He’s 6ft 2, deadly in the air, quick, strong in the challenge and does not stop working by making tireless runs into the channels and harassing defenders.
