The 35-year-old who won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2012 was recently released by Crystal Palace.
Hammers boss David Moyes has been searching far and wide for a top-class centre-back this summer.
Kurt Zouma and Nikola Milenkovic are West Ham’s two top targets (ExWHUemployee).
Our hopes of signing Zouma now seem to be all but over.

Whilst a deal for Milenkovic is still on the table, we may well now be on the look-out for alternate targets.
Gary Cahill an option for West Ham
ExWHUemployee claims that the veteran centre-half is on the Hammers’ radar.
That’s because deals for Moyes’s top targets are proving difficult to get over the line.

Cahill isn’t a bad defender at all. In fact, in his day he was top class. But seriously, come on. He’s 35 now.
And there is a reason why Palace would have released him.
Surely West Ham should be setting their sets higher in the transfer window this summer.
Cahill is available on a free transfer so it’s easy to see why the Hammers may be interested in acquiring his services.

Moyes quite simply must try and bring Milenkovic to the London Stadium this summer though. And if that’s not possible, Duje Caleta-Car would be a good option.
Gary Cahill should be at the very bottom of the list. We all know that David Sullivan probably sees that very differently, however.
