Southampton are reportedly very keen indeed to sign Flynn Downes from West Ham United this summer.
According to a report from the Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg, Southampton are ‘desperate’ to bring West Ham midfielder Flynn Downes to St Mary’s in the summer transfer window.

Hammers boss David Moyes signed the 24-year-old midfielder from Swansea City last summer for around £12 million (Sky Sports).

A recent report claimed that Downes could leave the London Stadium this summer.
And Southampton are apparently the club who want to sign him. Surely Moyes will use this as leverage to sign James Ward-Prowse?
Flynn Downes claim made as West Ham stay could end up being a really short one
The West Ham midfielder is a transfer target for Southampton this summer according to the Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg.
Downes was criminally underused by David Moyes last season. He was given just 753 Premier League minutes by Moyes (Transfermarkt).
That was all in spite of Downes impressing pretty much every time that he played for us.

I really think letting him go this summer would be a big mistake. He’s a very good central midfielder in my view, and has all of the attributes needed to play the defensive midfield role for the Hammers.
That said, Moyes clearly isn’t a big fan of Flynn Downes, so it would be no surprise if he were to leave West Ham to join Southampton before the start of next season.
I just feel like he still has so much to give at the London Stadium.
If Moyes does let him leave, I think it will be a big mistake, and one that he ends up regretting. However, if allowing Downes to join the Saints helps us sign Ward-Prowse, then it might be worth doing in the long run.
