Flamengo vice-president explains why West Ham United’s bid for Fabricio Bruno is ‘interesting’

So we can now unequivocally confirm that West Ham have made a formal bid for Flamengo defender Fabricio Bruno.

Brazilian centre-back Fabricio Bruno has been on the West Ham radar for the past few weeks, and it was claimed recently that a £12.8 million fee had been agreed for him.

Whilst that may not be exactly true, the fact that we have made an offer for him has now been confirmed, and the proposal sent to Flamengo by the Hammers was an ‘interesting’ one.

New West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui has a lot of work to do at the London Stadium this summer, with the addition of a new central defender an absolute necessity.

The 57-year-old Spaniard has been deep in discussions with Hammers Director of Football Tim Steidten about potential summer targets.

After Steidten’s scouting trip to Brazil, it seems like Flamengo star Bruno has emerged as West Ham’s priority target.

Now a new update has been provided by someone very close to the deal to potentially bring the 28-year-old to West Ham…

West Ham make official Bruno bid

The Brazil international could well be a Hammer by the start of next season.

Whether or not a deal can be agreed upon with Flamengo remains to be seen though.

That’s because West Ham have made an ‘iinteresting’ offer for Bruno – one that has not yet been accepted…

Marcos Braz – the vice-president of Flamengo – has opened up on Bruno’s potential move to West Ham this summer.

Braz told O Dia, “Flamengo are analysing the proposal (from West Ham). We see it favourably because it’s fair. It’s an interesting proposal for the player, which is from the Premier League. Let’s see what happens. Flamengo are analysing and seeing how we could minimise this loss.”

O Dia go on to say that the fee being discussed by Braz is €15 million (£12.8 million).

Bruno isn’t the most technically gifted of players, but he is an old-fashioned defender – someone who prides himself on stopping the ball from going in his side’s net.

And let’s be honest, that’s exactly what we need. We’ve missed having a proper centre-half since Craig Dawson left to join Wolves in January.

Whether Bruno is actually good enough to succeed in the Premier League with West Ham is obviously unknown at the moment.

But for just under £13 million, it’s not like the Hammers will be taking a massive risk by signing him.
