West Ham United will bid again for Burnley and England defender James Tarkowski.

Another one bites the dust for Moyes as Prem spend goes past £800m

Some West Ham fans have been sceptical over the club’s reported interest in Tarkowski after it emerged Burnley rated the centre back at £50million.

West Ham have been knocked back in their efforts to sign Tarkowski so far (Evening Standard).

And many Hammers fans believe they have been so-called ‘phantom’ bids – which West Ham know will be rejected out of hand.

Insider says West Ham bid was real

But now reliable insider ExWHUemployee has clarified West Ham’s stance over Tarkowski.

The anonymous Twitter and podcast personality has confirmed West Ham DID bid for Tarkowski and intend to submit another bid.

“Just to clarify the club do want the Burnley defender the bid was legit,” ExWHUemployee said on Twitter.

“It was rejected but the club could go back in again. Most first offers are rejected ‘they test the water’. Whether we will get him or not is not clear.

‘They will go back in’

“Not as such (that the first bid was a phantom bid) it was a test the water bid. Of course it would be hoped it was accepted but you kind of know it won’t be first time.

“They will go back in with another offer and see what happens.”

If Moyes can somehow get a deal over the line for Tarkowski, things will suddenly start to seem a lot rosier in the West Ham garden.

Transfer activity and winning start can lift the mood for unhappy Hammers

Goodness knows West Ham need some of the steel he would bring. That was painfully obvious from the abysmal defending on display in the 5-3 home defeat to Championship side Bournemouth in the final pre-season game at the weekend.

Supporters know the club also needs to address the full-back areas and ideally have another option up front.

West Ham have just over three weeks before the transfer window slams shut on October 5th.

A winning start to the new campaign against Newcastle this weekend and some much-needed transfer activity would go a long way to settling the club down.
